Following a recent remodel, Boulger Funeral Home now boasts the largest chapel in the Red River Valley and surrounding communities, seating up to 250 guests, along with a bright, updated luncheon hall that seats 135 without a single stair to climb. The spaces are warm, modern, and equipped with the latest technology—including full live-streaming and professional-grade audio-visual systems—ensuring loved ones near and far can participate.

Red River Valley Cremation: A Rare In-House Crematory

In January, Boulger Funeral Home opened its own in-house crematory, a decision years in the making. By bringing the service in-house, families’ loved ones remain in Boulger’s care from start to finish, and costs are often significantly lower than those at other area funeral homes.

“It’s been a huge benefit,” Boulger said. “We can offer more affordable cremation options, and we’ve eliminated the need to involve multiple providers.”

Grief Support - For Everyone

Boulger offers a free, in-house grief support program. Staffed by compassionate pastors and grief coordinators, the program includes monthly classes, drop-in sessions, one-on-one counseling, and even “grief yoga.”

“You don’t have to use our funeral services to come,” Boulger said. “It’s open to anyone in the community.”

Founded more than 100 years ago, Boulger Funeral Home continues to evolve while honoring its heritage. Along with its flagship location in Fargo, the firm operates in Hillsboro and Kindred, allowing families who move to the city to continue working with the people they know and trust.

Boulger himself didn’t plan to join the family business at first. “In my 20s, I had other plans,” he said. “But I’ve found my calling here. It’s meaningful work if you make it work.”

One of Boulger’s most practical tips comes from experience: if a death occurs while traveling, call the funeral home where you want the service to be held. “That way, you only deal with one funeral home,” he said. “It saves money and simplifies everything.”
